Christmas time keeps travel on our minds

This post talks about keeping travel in our minds, especially for the kids. We have been getting our Christmas decorations out for this year and setting up the tree. In among the decorations from our childhood and the homemade decorations are the mementos of our travels.

Disneyland

From Disneyland California 2 years ago we have Merida and “It’s a small world” Mouse ears. They makes us think of how much fun we had at Disneyland. How we lined up to meet Merida. How our youngest loved the “Its a Small World” ride and we went on it at least 4 times.

Canada

When we get our moose and bear and the lantern with the deer on it I remember going to the wonderful Christmas shop in Banff with our Canadian friends. We explored that shop for ages looking at the amazing variety of decorations both big and small. Multiple Santas and whole winter villages with trains running through them.

They give us time to talk to our girls about when we found them. Remember that the day after we went to the shop we also saw the Elk by the railway station. And the Bear on the tracks near Kelowna and the family of deer running past the back yard of our friends house.

It reminds the girls of where we have been and gets them excited each year about travelling.

London

On Our most recent trip re found a “royal crown” from the Tower of London after we visited the Crown Jewels. It did manage to make it back to Australia in one piece despite being used as a crown to make the baby doll into  princess on our trip.

Scotland

We also have a Harris Tweed star that reminds us of Arriving in to Tarbert Harbour on the Ferry from the Isle of Skye. It was a rainy Thursday, the only place we could go in the tiny town was the Harris Tweed shop. The only other place at the harbour was the Gin distillery. But that tour was sold out for the next 5 days.

It was the perfect place to find Harris tweed ( that can only be Woven in the house of someone who lives on the Island of Harris/ Lewis) in every possible colour made into almost anything you could imagine. The perfect place to find a new christmas decoration.

Future Travel

Next year we are going to Japan and hopefully we will be able to find a couple more decorations for our tree to keep travel in our mind each year.

I would love to hear what Christmas decorations and memories you have collected on your travels.
